Next summer may seem like a long time away, but planning is underway for my next tour right now. Out of thirty International companies in the CAFF Lottery, five were drawn. I was one of them. This means I automatically get into all the festivals I want to do, as long as I do at least five. I chose eight when I applied, which would amount to four months on the road. I’m thinking about knocking off two of them so I’m away for three months instead. I figured that may be saner considering I only toured for a month and a half (with a break) this past year. It may be better for me to focus on six festivals instead of eight, Plus I’ll be performing in Wisconsin in addition to this.
It doesn’t escape me how cool this is. They have a separate lottery for Canadian companies that is more competitive, so a lot of people would like to have this opportunity. I can now do a tight tour with no long breaks or huge distances in between, and hit the BIG festivals. All in Canada, by the way. Basically I’ll hit the major (and a few minor) cities across th Great White North.
Why not the U.S. you may ask? Canada has a performing CIRCUIT and the U.S. doesn’t. U.S. festivals have been good to me, but a few are in direct competition with the biggies in Canada. The ones where people spend their vacation going to shows! I loved performing in Cincy, Indy, and San Fran, and I love Minneapolis, and hopefully I can do more of the U.S. in the future. Philly, too. My birthplace/hometown (sort of). Naturally I will appear again in New York.
So what about the show, tentatively titled Frozen Fresh? Uhh, not totally sure yet. It may contain some material from Hooray, because I’d like to keep spreading the word. It have a thin layer of stress about this covering me that is only going to get heavier as time goes on. Or until I get to work on this. Planning, promoting, writing, performing, preparing for being away… This is a full-time job.
